A privacy-minimizing design for an independent, non-endorsed historical reference.
01 / COLLECTION
What this site is designed to collect
The site has no accounts, cookies, advertising, analytics, or sale of personal information. Search and filtering are designed to run in the browser without sending search wording to an application server.
Do not enter personal or sensitive information. Do not search for names, registration plates, driver or license identifiers, case numbers, narratives, criminal justice information (CJI), or other operational details.
02 / YOUR DEVICE
Limited browser storage
The theme and slash-shortcut preferences may be stored in localStorage. Up to five selected offense-record IDs—not search wording—and a dismissed update version may be retained in sessionStorage until the browser session ends. “Clear local data” removes these values.
An explicit “Share results” action may place the search wording and selected filters in the URL fragment after #. Fragments normally remain in the browser and are not included in the HTTP request, but anyone receiving the shared link can read that wording.
03 / HOSTING
Infrastructure metadata
Vercel hosts the site and may process ordinary request metadata such as IP address, date and time, requested path, user agent, response status, and security events under its own service terms and privacy practices. The application itself does not create user accounts or an application database.
Older links may contain search wording in query parameters such as ?q=. The initial request for a legacy link may expose that wording to hosting infrastructure before the page can migrate it to a private fragment. Do not place sensitive information in any search or URL.

The operator is the Independent Illinois Offense Code Reference project. Privacy questions may be submitted through the public project tracker at https://github.com/kirbyjosh28/offense-code-index/issues. Do not include personal, case, or criminal-justice information because tracker submissions may be public.
